Little Mia, holding her mother's hand, sets off into a world of adventures. And she finds them in the PlayHub game center. In this space, she not only plays, but also makes important decisions for herself, learns to communicate with children and adults, and acquires skills that will be useful to her in adult life. And you can read about all this in the book. "Mia goes on an adventure with her mother" is a publication for the youngest, published in Ukrainian by the NGO "Social Initiatives for Occupational Safety and Health" LHSI in partnership with ICDI (Netherlands).
The book appeared in the Kyiv PlayHub, where children, in particular from IDP families, come to play and learn. Now, together with Mia, they will be able to discover a world, where they are respected and listened to. This space currently hold the "TOY for participation" project, during which children learn to make decisions and choose. The importance of the right to choose is also discussed in the book about Mia.
Its authors specialize in helping children. The text was written by Paz Heusser Ferres, a clinical psychologist from Chile. She once admitted that her main goal is to make children smile. Paz travels a lot and works with kids. She conducted a study in 2024 at Utrecht University on the impact of play centers on children who visit them with their families.
Paz identified that spaces like PlayHub in Kyiv expand access to high-quality inclusive and intercultural play-based learning for young children; improve the transition experience for vulnerable children to school; increase trust between families of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds; strengthen cross-sectoral collaboration; and help children heal from the trauma of war.
The illustrations in the publication were also created by a researcher - Emily Oxenaar, who works on youth and community well-being. She also draws beautifully and loves the Art very much.
