LHSI Press Conference: Online Violence Against Teens

On May 30 at 11:00 AM in Kyiv, at the Crisis Media Center (Ukrainian House, 2 Khreshchatyk St.), LHSI will hold a press conference on the topic: Online Violence Against Adolescents – Who Suffers the Most, and Why Are Girls More Vulnerable to Sexual Violence Online, Methods of Preventing Online Violence, and the Best Models of Work in the EU and Ukraine? During the event, the Gender Analysis Report by the NGO “Social Initiatives for Labor and Health Protection” (LHSI) will be presented as part of the CybersafeGirls project.

During the event, the release of the Gender Analysis Report within the framework of the CybersafeGirls project, which is implemented with the financial support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, is planned. Among the participants of the press conference will be leading experts in the field of child protection: a representative of the State Service of Ukraine for Children, the authors of the study, and experts from the NGO “Social Initiatives for Labor and Health Protection”: Nataliia Lukianova, Ella Lamakh, Vadym Sharko, and a representative of the youth organization Teenergeizer (online).

The purpose of the study was to conduct a gender analysis of cyber-violence against girls and boys of different ages in Ukraine, identify specific gender characteristics of its manifestations, and develop recommendations for improving the system of prevention and counteraction. During the war in Ukraine, online violence against children (girls and boys) has increasingly been used for various methods of manipulation, recruitment of adolescents, sexual violence, bullying, and more.

Therefore, the Gender Analysis Report presented by LHSI “Social Initiatives for Labor and Health Protection” has become a timely and necessary study. It highlights the need for legislative changes, the importance of adult collaboration, and the involvement of children and adolescents in preventive work to combat cyber-violence. The results and conclusions of the report can serve as a basis for developing state programs and policies to counter cyber-violence against children.
