Adaptation of the online tool in Ukrainian

Within the framework of the project "Empowering Law Enforcement in Overcoming Online Violence against Children", the Ukrainian adaptation of an innovative tool for the prevention of online violence – CYBERSAFE – was completed. From now on, it is available in Ukrainian to facilitators working with teenagers.

CYBERSAFE is an online gaming tool for the prevention of online violence against women and girls among young people (13-16 years old), which can be used both in the classroom and in children's camps, etc. From now on, in the language menu, you just need to select the Ukrainian language and use it.

CYBERSAFE promotes healthy relationships and gender equality online. The CYBERSAFE Handbook provides information and tools to prepare for and facilitate four workshops on gender-based violence online with the aim of raising awareness, encouraging and supporting young people to behave safely and responsibly online.

This tool uses four strands of online violence against women and girls:

1. Sharing sexually explicit images without consent.

2. Exploitation, coercion and threats.

3. Sexual harassment.

4. Unwanted sexualization.

Both girls and boys can be victims of these types of online violence, but girls are more likely to be targeted, and incidents often lead to more negative consequences for girls. For example, girls are often judged and blamed more harshly than boys for being victimized.

These types of online violence against women and girls often intersect with offline forms of violence and should be seen as a continuum and as an expression of the same phenomenon, often starting offline and reverberating online or vice versa, pushing women out of public spaces and into the private sphere.

The Ukrainian version was created with the financial support of the European Union. The project is implemented with the financial support of the European Union by a consortium of three NGOs.

In the future, we plan to conduct training on modules for working with teenagers adapted for use — offline seminars for children, online tools (interactive modules), animated educational video. For the 2-day training, we will invite specialists working with children from partner organizations.
