Monitoring visit: Lviv region

In February 2024, a new year of implementation of the project "You should know about TB" began in Lviv, Vinnytsia, Chernivtsi, Kharkiv and Donetsk regions and the city of Kyiv.

On 13 March 2024, Ilona Yeleneva, Director of the NGO Labour and Health Social Initiatives (LHSI) , and Alla Melnyk, Programme Specialist, monitored the activities of the "You Should Know About TB" project in the Lviv Oblast. The specialists visited partner organisations and held working meetings on the project at the Lviv Regional Centre for Social Services, the Lviv Regional Phthisiopulmonology Centre, during which they discussed plans to optimise the project's work in the region in 2024, checked the maintenance and storage of primary documentation, tested the level of knowledge of social workers on the tuberculosis (TB) screening questionnaire, discussed plans for the implementation of indicators in the first half of the year and the interaction of social services and specialists in organising access to health care.

In general, the monitoring visit was very intense: we planned joint efforts to improve TB detection among IDPs living in shelters and other temporary accommodation facilities. We engaged new partners in cooperation — representatives of IDP shelters.

This year, we are focusing our work on IDPs' gathering places, conducting infection control training not only for our social workers but also inviting partners from shelters, and facilitating the coordinated work of mobile fluoroscopes by delivering TB screening services to IDPs' homes.

Last year, thanks to teams of social workers, 396 cases of TB were detected, including 14 among children.
