During the ten months of 2025 (January–October), the “You Should Know About Tuberculosis” project team carried out large-scale work in six regions of Ukraine — Vinnytsia, Donetsk, Lviv, and Chernivtsi regions, as well as in Kyiv and Kharkiv. The main goal of the project, implemented in conditions of full-scale war, remains unchanged: raising awareness, early detection, and support for people who may be infected with tuberculosis (TB).

Key results for January–October 2025:

Large-scale work focused on vulnerable and under-protected segments of the population has yielded the following results:

11214 people underwent a screening questionnaire for signs of tuberculosis.

5641 The project client underwent a TB test.

150 cases of tuberculosis were detected.

Monitoring and Analytics Specialist Volodymyr Bakhmat «11214 — is that a lot or a little? In fact, it is not enough, because due to the war and population migration, our social service professionals in 6 In the regions, many more people who find themselves in difficult life circumstances and need help are applying. But due to limited resources, we are forced to choose those who need help the most for support within the project.

We are grateful to each of our representatives in 15"You are in the communities we work in now, who continue to provide services to our clients during blackouts, overcoming the consequences of shelling in our communities."

Focus on regions and vulnerable groups

Particularly high TB detection rates were observed in Lviv (87 verified cases) and Kharkiv (40 verified cases) regions.

Much of the work in these regions has focused on internally displaced persons (IDPs) and residents of shelters and temporary accommodation, where the risk of infection and late seeking care is highest. Early detection of cases in collective accommodation is strategic to prevent outbreaks.

Comment from the project coordinator

"Even one detected case of tuberculosis is a potentially saved life and prevention of the spread of the disease. Thanks to the support of partners and the active work of social and medical teams, we managed to detect 66 cases of TB/XDR-TB in the early stages, which allowed us to immediately start treatment," - comments Ilona Yeleneva, project coordinator. — "This is a significant step towards overcoming the epidemic in wartime conditions, when access to medicine is difficult for many citizens.".

The project "You Should Know About Tuberculosis" is implemented by the International Public Organization "Social Initiatives for Occupational Health and Safety" (LHSI) with a grant from The Global Fund through the Alliance for Public Health.
