When timely diagnosis saves

Mykola (name changed) after returning from the combat zone turned to the Kharkiv City Center for Social Services "Dovira" with a request for assistance in resolving social issues.

The Center's specialist (an employee of the Project "You Should Know About Tuberculosis") provided initial socio-psychological support, determined priority issues for further work. She also advised him to spend his free time with loved ones, doing his favorite thing, to normalize his psychological state. He really loved cycling with his family, getting to know the picturesque surroundings of our city, forests, rivers and lakes of the Kharkiv region.

Over time, he began to notice that the distances he had covered without any significant effort were now causing him fatigue - family members had to stop often so that Mykola could clear his throat and rest a bit. Also, at work, colleagues noticed that the man was coughing often - this annoyed them a little. After all, the work process required significant intellectual effort and silence in the office where several people worked. Therefore, he was advised to contact an appropriate specialist. The man recalled that during the consultation at the Center, he was told about the project "You Should Know About Tuberculosis", which is implemented by the International NGO "Social Initiatives for Occupational Safety and Health".

With the assistance of the Center, the man went to a doctor for free diagnostics. Unfortunately, the diagnosis of latent tuberculosis was confirmed. The man was referred to a medical institution, where he was prescribed a free course of treatment.

Fortunately, the family members were not diagnosed with tuberculosis. Mykola is undergoing treatment successfully, and there is hope that soon the man will fully recover and will be able to lead a full life again, enjoying every day surrounded by loved ones and doing what he loves! After all, with timely diagnosis and treatment, we can overcome tuberculosis!
